Mini Trip: Vancouver, Surrey and White Rock

I took a trip today to Vancouver, BC to see my step-sister Krista, nephew Levi and new nephew Oliver. I live in Bellingham, WA which is only 20 miles from the Canadian border. Once across the border it's only about 45 minutes to Krista's place.

Levi is such a big boy now! He can put the clean silverware away all by himself!

Little Oliver is one month old.

He let Aunt Ruthie hold him for awhile. He sure looks tiny in my arms!
I decided to put one of the books I got for my birthday this summer to use.

I tried to rotate this but couldn't get it to work...so I guess you'll just have to turn your head!

So on the way home I stopped in Surrey to go to Redwood Park. Originally, there were twin brothers named David and Peter Brown who lived in South Surrey with their family in the 1870's. For their 21st birthday their dad gave them a gift of 40 acres (not a shabby gift if you ask me!). They ended up planting 32 different tree species from all over the world on their land. This area is now Redwood Park.

It was a bit rainy today. But it was perfect for a walk in the woods. I love the smell of rain in the forest!
I stumbled across several trees with these mini doors in them. I was a bit puzzled.

It didn't take long to realize that these are gnome doors! I looked high and low, but alas, I didn't find any gnomes!

Then I went to White Rock, a coastal tourist town. It is so close to home and I'd seen it from the train before, but I had never actually been. It was a bit windy, but still fun to walk along the boardwalk.

This guy looked like he was having a lot of fun.
Then it was time to go home. On the way there my wait was only ten minutes. On the way back it was 23 minutes...still not too long.
