I started working swing shift at the beginning of the month which for me is four days of 3 pm - 1 am. With sleeping late and the darker hours earlier in the evening I can feel the looming threat and on some days the reality of SAD. I'm loading up on Vitamin D and using my 'fake sunlight' lamp at work. However, I realized this week I need to make a real effort to get outside as many days as I can for a jog or a walk -- not only for the physical benefits but especially for the mental health benefits. Today is a day off and it was pouring rain when I got up and I could quickly feel my resolve to go outside melting away. However, in the afternoon it cleared up enough for a walk along one of Bellingham's many interurban trails. I went from Barkley Village to the bridge on Alabama Hill. Most of the brilliant fall colors are fading but there are still enough golds and yellows to make the trail magical.
